At the request of the family of Shane Byers, we would like to announce the forming of the Shane Byers Memorial Scholarship Fund.

  Shane Byers left this earthly world all too soon at the tender age of thirteen on Sunday January 10, 2010. At such a young age, he was an accomplished baseball, football, and basketball player for his school and city league teams. He was also an avid hunter, and as we knew him, a racer. Shane was an All-American “boy”.

  In an effort to keep Shane’s memory alive, the Shane Byers Memorial Scholarship Fund has been formed to assist other youngsters with the desire to attend college. Funds raised in a variety of ways, including direct contributions, will be dispersed annually among four youngsters and designated to the institution of higher learning of their choice, in Shane’s memory.

The four recipients will be chosen from Shane’s four “families”, the Johnsonville baseball, football, and basketball programs, as well as a plate division racer from his kart racing family.

  Shane’s hometown kart track in Johnsonville, SC (Wheel Crazy Kartway) is the site of the South Carolina Winter Nationals. At this event, in cooperation with track promoter Michael Stone, a plate division racer will be selected as “The Most Outstanding Jr Racer”, and will receive a scholarship certificate towards education funding beyond high school. The racer selected will receive the Shane Byers Memorial Cup for the period of one year. The Memorial Cup will be a “traveling award”, awarded each year to a new recipient.

  It is our wish, and we pray that Shane’s passing can possibly make a difference in the lives of youngsters in a positive way for many years to come.

  For our racing family, fund raising efforts for the Scholarship Fund will begin at the upcoming SC Winter Nationals at Wheel Crazy Kartway, February 19-20, 2010. Memorial tee shirts will be available, with all proceeds going to the Fund. Memorial decals are also available.

Direct Contributions can be made to the Fund Administrator at;
